A MAN is facing an arson charge after allegedly burning down an Evesham commercial farm building causing £172,000 damage.
Appearing at Worcester Magistrates' Court yesterday, Edward Allcock, of Kempsey Close, South Woodrow, Redditch, faced one charge of arson.
The incident is alleged to have occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 8 at the former Staite Nurseries, which is now Avon Nurseries, off Avon Street, in Evesham.
A fire broke out in one of the packing plants at the site, which contained thousands of pounds worth of machinery and more than 2,000 bales of hay.
Allcock, formerly of Evesham, was arrested by West Mercia police officers on last Friday and charged with arson.
The case was adjourned and Allcock, aged 20, is due to reappear before the same court at 10am, on Tuesday, January 13, when it is expected magistrates will transfer the case to Worcester Crown Court.
Allcock was released on unconditional bail.
