CAPTAIN Clare Berrisford was full of praise for her team as Bromsgrove Hockey Club Ladies Second XI defeated a strong Stourport side 1-0 at home last Saturday.
Berrisford's side were handed their goal by Stourport mid-way through the first half but held out for a memorable result against their rivals.
The captain said: "This was always going to be one of our toughest games as Stourport nearly always beat us by a couple of goals in league fixtures.
"All credit to the team on this occasion as it wasn't our best performance to date and we even had the chance to score more against such as strong team."
Bromsgrove, having lost forward Amanda Johnson to the First XI at the last minute, attacked well early on and that persistency paid off Libby Joss' cross made contact with the stick of midfielder Sophie Brace and Stourport deflected the ball into their own goal.
The hosts were then forced to defend a series of penalty corners and were indebted to goalkeeper Isabel Hyde for a crucial second half save.
Bromsgrove travel to Upton, Malvern, this Saturday.
