BROMSGROVE & Redditch AC's Sharon Tonks arrived at Birmingham's Alexandra Stadium on Saturday for the 2nd Mid Winter League race still suffering the effects of a heavy cold.
Friday's storms has also brought havoc to the normal course and a new one had to be hastily measured and the new flat twisting 1km circuit was ideal for Sharon as it allowed her to monitor the progress of the whole field at all times.
From the gun Sharon stayed behind the leader of the men's race for the first lap. At this point she decided she could reduce her pace considerably without being caught by the second placed woman.
At the end of 5km she was second athlete to cross the line, a clear winner of the women's race.
After her second win in the series Sharon has the luxury of knowing that only a failure to finish at Tamworth in two week's time can rob her of an overall win of the series.
