TABLE Etiquette was the subject of the talk by Rueben Lynch, who describes himself as "the only black toastmaster in the UK".
His bible is Debrett's Etiquette and Modern Manners and gives advice on how to behave at dinner, including which cutlery to use, how to hold the knife and fork and deal with the bread roll, whilst simultaneously indulging in the art of conversation.
Rueben, who has in the past organised dinners attended by members of the Royal family, demonstrated how to lay the table properly and which glasses to use for which drinks and how to fold the napkin according to buffet or dinner requirements.
Regarding menu choice, keep it simple was Rueben's advice in order to do it well and don't forget the all-important presentation.
It is up to the hostess to create a relaxing and congenial atmosphere - candlelight and interesting subjects for conversation, steering clear of politics, sex and religion!
The talk at the next meeting will be Beautiful Scarves and Jewellery by Lynda Kettle at The Holly Bush, Alcester.
The Christmas meal will be on December 2 at The Green Dragon, Sambourne.
