Railways Overseas - from East Africa to Ecuador was the theme of October's Redditch Railway Interest Group Meeting.
Henry Gunston from Wantage described with the help of colour slides some fascinating railways seen during his years working overseas as a water engineer.
The climax of his talk, which filled us with awe at such an amazing engineering achievement, was the steam railway climbing high into the Andes to Quito!
A fortnight later, several members linked up with the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway West Midlands Group for a visit by rail to Manchester to visit the Metro Link Tramway Workshops and Control Centre.
Here, a vivid insight into the workings of a modern urban electric tramway was experienced.
The tramway was then used to reach Bury for a journey on the East Lancashire Railway, including the new Heywood extension.
