A CHURCH Hill student has hit a high note after completing her gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Rachel Lacey, 18, completed sections including weekend music practice, swimming lessons and a four-day, 50-mile hiking trip in the Lake District.
She also attended the London International Youth Science Forum and worked as a volunteer at the Cancer Research UK shop in Church Green.
She now awaits an invitation to collect her award, which recognises the personal achievements of 14-25 year olds who take up new or develop existing interests, from The Duke of Edinburgh at St James' Palace next year.
Rachel has also gained 100 hours and 200 hours certificates in the Millennium Volunteers scheme, a national initiative to reward young people who put time into the community in the form of service.
As well as working in the Cancer Research UK shop, Rachel spent three hours a week rehearsing with the Birmingham School's Concert Orchestra, playing the trumpet.
She then gave up her free time to perform in concerts at venues including Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
