MORE than £1million is being sought by Warwickshire County Council for Alcester's newly planned primary school.
The county council is readying a £1.3 million bid to the Government after the green light was given to amalgamating St Faith's Junior and Alcester Infants schools recently.
The new primary school, to be sited at St Faith's Junior School, will be for children aged four to 11 and will also include pre-school provision for younger children.
Councillor Richard Grant, cabinet member for education, said: "The county council is committed to providing opportunities for all and we are confident that the proposed new primary school in Alcester will provide an improved learning environment for children and young people in the town."
The council has a good track record in securing money from the Targeted Capital Fund after all recent bids were accepted.
But the outcome for this bid will not be known until the spring - just months before the scheduled opening of the school in September.
The new school will have to operate from both the St Faith's Road and Moorfields sites until building work is completed.
The move is the latest of a series of initiatives to improve school buildings and facilities for children and young people in Alcester.
Just this year, £3.5 million was handed to Alcester Grammar and Alcester High schools for building improvements.
