ALCESTER police have issued a warning after a man conned his way into the home of a Bidford pensioner.
At about 5.20pm on Friday, a 68-year-old woman from Jubilee Close answered her door to a man who said he was from a housing association and asked for a Mr Thompson.
The woman said she knew no-one of that name but the man then asked if there was anything wrong with the water supply.
The man produced no identification but was invited in and filled a glass with water from the woman's kitchen tap.
Before long, the pensioner became suspicious and the man left saying he must have come to the wrong property.
Police believe nothing was stolen and the woman saw no-one else.
Police described the man as white, mid 40s, 5ft 7ins tall, receding grey hair, clean shaven and well spoken. He was wearing a light tan V-neck sweater and no vehicle was seen.
Alcester police are investigating the incident as a distraction burglary and any witnesses have been asked to call DC Garath Jackson on 01926 415000, voicemail 10240, at Alcester CID.
Leaflets spelling out the warnings of bogus callers have now been given out to residents in the area.
