A PUB customer suffered three cuts after being attacked by a man armed with a piece of broken glass.
Vincent Best grabbed James Patterson around the throat and threatened to kill him, Worcester Crown Court heard.
The two men had been involved in a long-standing dispute over a woman.
Mr Patterson pushed Best away outside the Bluebell pub in Guarlford Road, Malvern, but then found he was bleeding.
He was treated in hospital for cuts to his neck, cheek and chin, said Mark Wall, prosecuting.
Best, aged 23, of Moat Crescent, Malvern, was jailed for 21 months.
He pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
Mr Patterson was already in the pub on Sunday, March 16 when friends of Best fetched him to the scene.
The landlady asked both men to leave after Best made a threat to kill.
Outside, Best came up behind the victim and began shouting that he had no courage because he would not fight, said Mr Wall.
After a second threat to kill, Best assaulted his rival.
The defendant had previous convictions for dishonesty but none for violence.
Defence counsel Gareth Walters said there was a long-standing grudge over Best's brief relationship with Mr Patterson's girlfriend. It had led to arguments.
He accepted that Best had been holding broken glass during the struggle.
Judge Michael Mott told Best he had come to the pub looking for trouble and caused a "very nasty episode".
