ANNE and Alf Smith could not think of a better way to celebrate their diamond wedding than by asking their relatives and friends to donate cash to the Worcestershire Air Ambulance Service.
The selfless couple declined presents from their loved ones and instead urged them to make donations to their favourite cause.
Yesterday, Mr and Mrs Smith, of Bromsgrove, who celebrated 60 years of marriage on Friday, October 10, visited the service's headquarters at the north side of Strensham Service Station to hand over a cheque for more than £800.
Useful
Mr Smith, aged 84, who still works for the family's food trade equipment suppliers, said: "We wanted to give money to the service because it is very, very useful.
"It saves lives and in order to do that, it needs as much money as it can get."
Mrs Smith, aged 82, added: "Everyone has been very generous to us and we wanted to give some money to charity instead of receiving personal gifts from our relatives and friends."
