A MAN went on an £870 spending spree after stealing his grandfather's credit card.

Wayne Recardo, of Paddock Green, Droitwich, used the stolen card to make 14 transactions, which included buying petrol and toiletries, in May this year, Worcester Magistrates' Court heard.

The court was told the 28-year-old had stolen the card from the wallet of Kenneth Woods, who was his grandfather.

Leslie Ashton, prosecuting, said this was a "crime for attention" which followed the breakdown of a relationship.

Dawn Cooper, defending, said Recardo has been driven to steal because his ex-girlfriend frequently demanded cash and she and her family had threatened him with violence.

Miss Cooper asked the court not to reveal Recardo's address in public because he had moved house and she said there was a risk of retaliation.

Recardo admitted the four charges of obtaining property by deception and asked for 10 more to be taken into consideration at court yesterday.

He was sentenced to a total of 80 hours community punishment and was ordered to pay £872.54 compensation and costs of £118.
