HEAVY metal band Deafening Silence certainly made an impact on judges when they made it through the first heat of Battle of the Bands at Wolverhampton Civic.

The Worcester-based three-piece, battled it out against two other bands last Friday. and came out on top.

Deafening Silence consists of Luke Gregg on drums, Dave Laidaw on vocals and guitar, and Andy Stone, known as Stoney on bass.

It will come as no surprise that the band's name, decided by Dave and Stoney, came about because of the heavy music they play.

For drummer Luke it is second time lucky. He used to play with Alice Loves Picasso who got through the first round of The Marr's Bar battle of the band competition last summer, but they split up before the next heat.

"I used to be into punk music, but Dave and Andy changed me into liking heavy metal," said Luke.

"Dave and Stoney were friends at school, and they started a band Extreme Fatigue.

"They were looking for a drummer and I said I'd temporarily drum with them."

When Alice Loves Picasso split up, Luke became a permanent drummer for the band, who became Deafening Silence.
