INDECENT text messages sent to a young Wyre Forest girl's mobile phone led to the setting up of the new safety initiative.
The teenager had been using a computer chatroom linked to a phone service which led to the unwanted contact.
Paul Hawkins, who is managing the project, said web or e-mail addresses or mobile numbers did not have to be voluntarily given out for this to happen.
"There are many ways of finding out numbers and addresses.," he said. "The links can be made web to web or web to phone. There have been an increasing number of incidents where paedophiles have used these methods to 'groom' their victims."
The girl contacted PC Jon Harris and this, along with other recent publicity about the use of internet chatrooms by known paedophiles, prompted the latest action in Wyre Forest.
"It's a reflection of the world young people live in," Mr Hawkins said. "It's a modern version of Don't Talk To Strangers."
