FLUTE player Kerry-Anne Searle, clarinettist Judith Hood and bassoon player Joanna Coombes did Birmingham Conservatoire proud at their concert at Kidderminster Town Hall on Friday.
While I must admit classical music is not my chosen genre, the evening proved an enjoyable and relaxing way to wind down after a week's hard graft.
And although the conditions outside were dismal - and probably accounted for the relatively poor turn-out - the mood inside was bright.
The talented young performers were smart and eloquent and exuded a genuine - and contagious - love of music, particularly bassoonist Joanna Coombes who seemed to introduce each piece with the words "This is a particular favourite of mine.."
They played a selection of pieces, which ranged from Pleyel's Trio in C Major to Gershwin's Summertime and Mozart's Cinq Divertissements.
And while I wasn't too keen on Judith Bailey's Wind Willows, their concluding performance of George Gershwin's I Got Rhythm more than made up for it.
I also particularly enjoyed their renditions of Bach's Siciliano from Flute Sonata No 2 in E flat Major and Joplin's Elite Syncopations. BH
