BIRTHDAY CALENDAR: On many walls in Bredon houses hang beautiful watercolours by local artist Charles Swannell. Charles and his wife Paddy have long been members of the congregation of St Giles Church, Bredon. Between them they have devised a fund raising idea for the church which will give people pleasure for many years, and could solve many a Christmas present problem. A perpetual four-page calendar displays views around Bredon. It is designed to display birthday and anniversary dates throughout the year. It comes complete with posting envelope. To secure one of these, phone 772302 or purchase one from the local stores at £8.50. All proceeds will go to St Giles Church.

SAVE THE CHILDREN: Save the Children and Rosemary Ballinger in particular thank everyone who supported her Christmas shop for the day, which raised £935 plus some extra orders from the SCF catalogue. Two other charities had been invited to share the occasion, St Richards Hospice for whom Elaine Lane raised £100 with a cake stall and Bredon Hancocks First School for whom Morag Potter raised £50 for their garden project.

ST GILES FLOWER GUILD AGM: The good humour of the vening was tinged with sadness. Mrs Ruth Hall, who has been chairman for many years, decided to stand down. Mrs Hall was thanked for the hours of work and for the dedication with which she has handled this office. Mr John Hall was also thanked for the work he has done in restoring several pedestals, and also for the slide show he has given at each AGM for many years. Mrs Jan Woollatt was welcomed and the new chairman, and Mrs Judith Meikle will take her place as secretary.

BREDON COMMUNITY CARE AGM: Bredon Manor was the venue for this event, by invitation of chairman Mrs Mary Doney. A report was submitted by Mrs Olvia Chase on the service offered by BCC to parishioners (who need transport) for medical appointments. Mrs Chase said that there were currently 25 drivers on the books. The number of requests for help had dropped to 54 in the past year. Mrs Doney thanked Mrs Chase and Mrs Ann Strapps for their work in co-ordinating this service. Mrs Pippa Cluer reported that the regular wheelchair bus service was running smoothly, and was very much appreciated by those who use it. Mr and Mrs Ken Brown were thanked for overseeing the equipment owned by BCC, and for organising the loan of wheelchairs where needed. Mrs Doney reported that a coffee morning had raised £595 which had enabled wheelchairs to be serviced and a donation of £350 to be sent to wheelchair bus. Mrs Judith Meikle was thanked for hosting this, and for her work, with the chairman, on the Parish Directory, which is of enormous value to the village. Mrs Doney thanked the secretary, Mrs Judith Wise and treasurer Mr John Allen and all the committee.
