CHRISTMAS FAIR: Pre-School's Christmas Fair will take place on Saturday in the village hall between 2pm and 4pm. There is to be a pantomime theme running through all the afternoon's activities, so visitors can expect to see both pantomime horse and cow, to say nothing of Father Christmas who will be in attendance throughout. There will be many activities to appeal to children, while refreshments for the older visitors will be readily available.

That same evening sees the hall transformed for another event, an illustrated talk by Mairi MacDonald of the Shakespeare Institute on the subject of Christmas Customs and their origins. The tickets, priced £4, include mulled wine and mince pies and can be obtained from Jess Fairs on 871228 or any member of the social committee. The evening starts at 7.30pm.

FIRST SCHOOL: Harvington First School continues on its energetic and successful way, at present in the capable hands of acting head Mrs Debbie Fielden, who is substituting for Mrs Palmer while she is absent for two terms on secondment (because of her expertise) to another school. Harvest Festival was the first major event of the new year with 135 baskets of produce delivered after the service to senior citizens of the village. The school enjoyed receiving a prestigious National award for the recently developed playground and the imaginative use to which it is being out.

Morning assembly is conducted every fortnight by the Rev Richard Thorniley, while Friday mornings assemblies are well attended by a number of parents who come to enjoy the special celebrations assembly at which pupils receive commendations for attitude and achievement.

The Christmas production is now in rehearsal and is to be an all-inclusive presentation of the musical version of Baboushka.
