JUDO: Seven golds were among the rewards for Samurai Judo Club at the Brian Roberts Memorial Championships in Stoke.
The Kidderminster club took home 22 medals from the competition which was split into lower and higher grades.
Samurai dominated the lighter weight groups and Jack Roberts made his way steadily into the boys' U-30kg final with three maximum-point wins.
Roberts duly dispatched his Lincolnshire opponent who, by coincidence, is set to join Samurai when he moves to Bewdley in December.
In the U-34kg category, three Samurai players made the semi-finals with Callum Lowe eventually taking the gold medal.
Daniel Spivey enjoyed four good wins but narrowly lost his semi, while Lowe beat club-mate Edward Connor in the other last-four clash.
Lowe looked unstoppable in winning the final by maximum points and Connor hit back to take a bronze.
Simon Cooper progressed to the U-46kg final but lost on a narrow score and had to settle for silver.
In the lightest girls' weight, Poppy James and Lottie Millington fought well to make it an all-Samurai final.
The more experienced Millington triumphed by a major score but James has improved massively during the last few months.
Kathryn Lowe and Rosie Tramontana followed up recent Shuttle Challenge golds with bronzes at their first open event.
They were edged out of the final by yet another promising player Amber Gaughan who finished with silver.
In the open weight section, Hannah Cooper showed a lot of determination despite being much lighter than her opponents.
H Cooper met club-mate Amy Millington in the semis and won narrowly to book a place in the final.
But Katherine Lloyd Jones blitzed her way to the last stage with four top victories in the other half of the draw and defeated H Cooper in the end.
Five boys took on the open grade boys' category as Benjy Connor and Ben Newbury gave superb displays of skill to win gold in their groups.
Ryan Pitcock battled well to reach his final but lost to Newbury and then competed in the next weight to make another gold play-off.
But he met Samurai's Matthew Lowe and had to collect another silver in a tight contest.
Ben Dowling added another silver with three good wins but Wesley Connor missed out on the medals after two successes.
In the girls' open grades, Gaughan edged out K Lowe for the second time in the day as they recorded a silver and bronze respectively.
Kerrie Pitcock gave a typically gutsy display against heavier players to win a bronze in her weight group.
Samurai also dominated the top-three places in the Midlands Junior Referee of the Year assessment.
Karl Gaughan, who has made substantial progress this year, was third but the trophy was a two-horse race between Kate Walker and Newbury.
Walker edged ahead of Newbury to claim the title for the second year running.
