BOGUS callers barged past a Kidderminster pensioner and snatched her purse in a "despicable" distraction-style burglary.
Two men called at a house in the Offmore Road area at about 3pm on Monday claiming they needed to turn off the OAP's water supply.
They then pushed past her into the house and took her purse from the hall before escaping.
Detective Sergeant Leighton Harding, of Kidderminster Police, said: "This is a truly despicable crime where two men have threatened, frightened and intimidated an elderly and defenceless woman.
"It may be that there was someone walking their dog nearby or driving past who saw someone behaving suspiciously or running away."
Both offenders are described as white men aged 25-30 years wearing navy blue anoraks. Both had dark hair and one had a receding hairline. One man was about 6ft 2ins while the second man was shorter.
Officers are studying CCTV evidence and are urging anyone with information to call Kidderminster police station on 08457 444 888. Anyone not wanting to give their name can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
l A man with a southern Irish accent was also seen in the Offmore Road area around the same time offering carpets for sale.
He called at three houses between 11.30am and 2.30pm and is described as white, aged 30-45, 5ft 10 in, clean-shaven with a stocky build and was wearing a blue or grey jumper with dark trousers.
A large white transit van was also seen in the area.
