MEMBERS of Bewdley Historical Research Group are celebrating putting Wribbenhall on the map with the release of their 17th book.

The 17-strong society researched and wrote their latest literary offering Wribbenhall - The Day Before Yesterday after achieving a Heritage Lottery Awards for All grant of almost £5,000.

And group secretary Angela Purcell, whose husband Charles is also a member of the organisation, said they decided to write about Wribbenhall after concentrating on the Bewdley-side of the bridge for many years.

"We decided Wribbenhall hadn't really had much coverage for a long, long time and we wanted to do something about it - but we had no finances so we applied for funding," she explained.

"We outlined what we wanted to do - the end result being to produce a book - and they awarded us just under their maximum of £5,000." She added the grant covered researching, writing and printing the publication - a general history of the area including articles on farms, churches and the railway.

"We all did bits towards researching various places, including pubs, big houses and various clubs and societies."

She added: "It's been a lot of fun but it's also been a lot of hard work - things aren't easily found.

"We've had to forage around in old newspapers and magazines - and the Shuttle was extremely useful as was the Berrows Journal."

Copies of Wribbenhall - The Day Before Yesterday can be obtained from the local history room at Bewdley Museum and Tourist Information Centre, as well as from the group at 8 Ironside Close, Bewdley, DY12 2HX.

The book will also be on sale at the group's stand in Bewdley museum when the town's Christmas lights are switched on on Saturday, November 29.
