The normal Saturday routine was shattered by protesters outside Stark Contrast. Was it a peaceful protest, no, shouting through loud hailers at the top of their voices.

I live in Worcester Road and was happily reading the morning paper when I heard the noise. It went on for a few hours and then I felt obliged to go out and see what it was all about.

When I approached the protesters, and asked why they had to shout and why they could not protest quietly, they said I should not live in the city if I didn't like noise.

Now excuse me if I seem a bit dim, but Ledbury is not a "city" but a small market town that does not warrant this type of protest, when there are senior citizens and families with small children about on a Saturday.

I did speak to the local police who were less than helpful. They advised me that they were not causing an obstruction and were not in breach of the peace and if I wanted to complain about the noise, I should speak to environmental health.

Well, I am sorry they were causing an obstruction, because they were blocking the window of the shop thus stopping people from viewing goods, they also prevented people from venturing further up High Street. I felt threatened and I am sure many other people did.

Frankly I am disgusted about the way the police handled this situation and I am sure many others will agree with me.
