MANY rail passengers in Malvern and Ledbury have had enough of a 'service' which all too often, it seems, is barely worthy of the name and who can blame them?

Whether the service between Worcester and Hereford is worse than other parts of the rail network we can't say. According to a spokesman for Central Trains, not that many trains are cancelled, but our readers paint a different picture.

Our story last week about how unreliable train services were disrupting the education of students travelling to Hereford Sixth Form College has prompted a rash of letters about late and cancelled trains, which are making people's lives a misery.

One reader Jackie Carey wants to form a local rail user group for Malvern and Ledbury passengers to fight for a better service.

To support her efforts, we have decided to launch a campaign of our own, which we are calling 'Not getting there', with the aim of highlighting poor public transport links in the area and hopefully getting some improvements.

We would urge readers who have bad experiences to contact us and we will keep banging the drum on this issue until things get better.

Integrated public transport was a term much trumpeted by the new Labour Government when it came to power, although one you don't here so often these days!

Everyone, even car users, benefit from better rail services and public transport links generally, in fact they are essential to the economic viability of the area - we can't afford to accept a poor service.
