PATIENTS who struggle to get from Droitwich to Worcestershire Royal Hospital are set to benefit from a new service early in the New Year.
Droitwich Spa & Rural Council for Voluntary Service through the community transport scheme want to provide a people carrier, to help the elderly or those that may have difficulties travelling to and from the Worcester-based hospital.
Sue Poyer from the Droitwich Spa & Rural Council for Voluntary Service said: "This will be open to those who at present for whatever reason have difficulties catching public transport or for those that public transport is not available to. They would also need to be registered at a doctors or practitioners in Droitwich.
"It could also be that an out-patient may be unable to drive after receiving treatment and they would also be eligible to qualify."
The project is still in it's early stages but the group is looking to gain funding by early next year to get the scheme up and running. They have already received a £1,000 grant from the Town Council and are delighted to gain their support.
Sue added: "We are looking for several different funding sources and we are extremely pleased to receive this contribution from the Town Council."
