Temperatures are set to soar as the West End production of The Graduate comes to Malvern Theatres.

Set in California during the Sixties, the play has had sensational runs in London and on Broadway before embarking on its first-ever tour of Britain.

Twenty-year-old Benjamin Brad-dock has graduated from college with flying colours, much to the delight of his parents.

His future success seems mapped out for him, until he crosses paths with Mrs Robinson, one of his parent's oldest and dearest friends.

Benjamin is young enough to be her son and old enough to know better, but it's not long before he's helping Mrs Robinson with her zip.

Glynis Barber follows in the footsteps of Kathleen Turner, Jerry Hall and Amanda Donahoe to play the seductive Mrs Robinson.

She has worked extensively in film and television as well as treading the boards for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

However, she is perhaps best known for her role as Harriet Makepeace in TV series Dempsey and Makepeace, and is now appearing in ITV's Night and Day.

Impressionable youngster Benjamin Braddock is played by Andres Williams, who has starred in the role throughout the play's West End run, alongside Amanda Donahoe and Anne Archer.

Adapted from Charles Webb's novel and award-winning film, The Graduate is described as a moving coming-of-age story, as well as an extremely funny black comedy.

The show is set against a soundtrack of memorable Sixties hits, including The Beach Boys' Wouldn't it be Nice, and the famous Simon and Garfunkel hits Mrs Robinson and Sound of Silence.

The show attracted a certain amount of controversy earlier in its tour when stores were told that certain audience members - or theatre managements - were unhappy that Glynis Barber did not appear nude in one scene, unlike her predecessors in the role.

But that did not stop the Daily Telegraph's critic praising it as a "first-class homage" to the film, which starred Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman.

The Graduate runs from December 1 to 6 at the Festival Theatre and tickets, priced from £14 to £22, are available from the box office on 01684 892277.
