UNIVERSITY College Worcester rugby team recorded their first victory of the season with a 17-13 win over Northumbria University in BUSA Premier League North.
UCW made the breakthrough with Simon Kelly kicking a penalty, although Northumbria responded with a pen-alty making the score 3-3.
The Worcester pack then took control and a good line-out move saw Dan Chesham going over, Kelly converted to make the score 8-3.
UWC kept up the mom-entum and just before half time their efforts were rewarded through a penalty try.
After the break Nor-thumbria came back and continued to look dangerous with the ball in hand, but the UCW defence held strong.
However the visitors managed to get back into the game with a try from a driven lineout.
Poor discipline then gave the visitors another line-out close to the UCW line and again the Northumbria forwards went over from a driven line-out. With Northumbria failing to convert either try, UCW were able to hold on to a four-point lead and the game. The victory moved UCW off the foot of the table.
Meanwhile the Warratahs were defeated 22-7 at Oxford Brooks.
