JOHN Hinton made a fair comment in defending the city council over the naming of the Cathedral Plaza (You Say, Saturday, November 8).
In contrast, however, my observations were made in view of two contentious local issues.
First, there is the persistence of large and powerful supermarket chain that wants to replace Christopher Whitehead School with another outside the city in order to build another supermarket in its place.
Second, there is the question of the expansion of University College Worcester on the former Royal Infirmary site, with all its social implications to nearby residential areas, as highlighted in the Phillpott File of Monday, October 20 headlined "Did anyone ask you if you wanted 3,000 more students in Worcester?"
Anyway, irrespective of my feelings on the matter of whose fault it is, it's a safe bet that the majority of the electorate will not be exercise their so-called democratic right to vote for an unrepresentative, toothless local government.
L SPITERI, Worcester.
