A SIGNED rugby shirt by England captain Martin Johnson helped a successful promises auction raise nearly £3,000 towards a new ambulance in Droitwich.
St John Ambulance organised the event at the Copcut Elm pub last night .
And the 100 lots, which included car-cleaning and gardening IOUs, a VIP tour of Heart FM, and a signed Genesis T-shirt and album, went down a treat with Christmas shoppers.
Not surprisingly, after England's triumphant World Cup win, an England rugby shirt, signed by the captain raised the most money, generating £550 on its own.
"The night was absolutely marvellous. Everyone had a wonderful time," said St John divisional officer Richard Brown.
"We have had our old ambulance for about 13 years now and it does not comply with EU regulations and we thought this would be a great way to help us raise the necessary £60,000.
"The residents of Droitwich have already been extremely generous and donated around £47,000. We are pleased to announce we are just £10,000 off the target."
