WORCESTER'S Simon Archer, who helped Britain to capture their first ever Olympic badminton medal three years ago in Sydney, is making a late push to get to next year's Athens Games with a new partner.
Just when a long-lasting knee injury seemed to be ending his hopes, Archer and Donna Kellogg, the former European women's doubles champion, have won three titles in five weeks -- the latest success coming at yesterday's Scottish International Championships in Glasgow.
Archer and Kellogg outplayed the third-seeded Swedes, Jorgen Olsson and Frida Andreasson, 15-5, 15-3 in the final.
"A couple more wins like this and we will be closing in on our target," said Archer. He was referring to a top-16 place -- which will guarantee Olympic selection.
