BROMSGROVE Rovers lost their unbeaten away record in the Dr Martens Western Division when they went down 1-0 at Swindon Supermarine.

Swindon started off the better adapting to the slippery conditions.

Jimmy Carter just failed to reach Simon Futcher's deep cross and Paul Wyatt was smartly down at his post to collect a shot from Steve Davies.

Rovers also had chances. Paul Szewczyk got a header in off Danny Scheppel's free kick which was scrambled away, before Kevin Banner broke free from midfield and his shot beat Tom King in goal but also the far post.

Mark Atkinson beat the Swindon offside trap but Steve Bennett recovered well to retrieve the situation with a well-timed challenge.

Justin Miller should have put Swindon in front but shot wide from a good position. Carter put his shot around the post with only Wyatt to beat, and Barrie Matthews saw his header tipped over the bar by Wyatt.

At the other end Steve Frost headed Scheppel's free kick just over but it was Swindon who took the lead two minutes before half time.

Bennett played a through ball to Futcher, Wyatt spotted the danger but slipped at the vital moment, giving the winger time to cross to wing back Sean Terry racing in unmarked at the far post to slide the ball home.

Swindon continued where they left off at the start of the second half. Dave Gee saw his shot deflected wide, Davies hit a shot that just cleared the bar and Miller saw his effort go just wide of Wyatt's upright.

On the hour Swindon thought they had got a second when Matthews converted Miller's cross, but the assistant referee ruled the ball had crossed the by-line before Miller reached the ball.

The nearest Rovers came to a goal was on 65 minutes, when Steve Pope rose at the far post to meet Marcus Jackson's cross only to see it cannon off the post. King then saved a snap shot at the foot of his post to deny Atkinson and easily collected Jackson's speculative shot. Only an outstretched foot by Chris Copp denied Szewczyk a chance from James Dyson's quickly taken free kick.

Substitute Richard Tomkins beat his marker down the left but his dangerous cross was scrambled away.

In the final minute Swindon sub Richard Knox fired across the face of goal with only the keeper to beat.
