FOUR pool players from Malvern have helped a Worcester team to glory in the English Pool Association's Champions of Champions tournament.
Mark Stephenson, team captain, Sean Daly, Andy Jones and Ken Jones were part of the ten-man Worcester Dream Team who qualified for the competition by winning their own league.
The team then defeated Kidderminster 8-1 in a qualifier to join 95 other teams in the finals of the event, that started with 4,500 teams, in Great Yarmouth.
All teams played in a round robin league to qualify for the final 32 in a knockout competition and the Dream Team went forward after wins of 11-3 and 14-0.
In the first knockout match the Dream team met the tournament favourites Castle Tavern from London, who had won the Inter League team finals at Yarmouth earlier in the year, but they were no match for the Worcestershire side. The Dream team steamrollered them 8-1 in just 15 minutes.
Captain Mark Stephenson said: "Six of the frames were break to finishes and I don't think any team could have played better. From then on we just went from strength to strength."
They then defeated JDs Pool 8-5, the White Lion A 8-2 and in the semi-final disposed of Hustlers X 8-2.
In the final they met Northgate B, from Sheffield, and were just defeated 8-6, but can claim to be the second best team in the UK.
