A MATURE student indecently assaulted a woman shop assistant, hurled abuse at a family and then punched a store worker in the face during a supermarket attack.

Twenty-eight-year-old Philip Holden, from Kempsey, smelled of alcohol when he stumbled into Tesco, St Peter's, Worcester.

Prosecuting, Mike Cowley said the chaos happened on Friday, May 3, at around 11pm.

"He entered the store, approached a female member of staff from behind and placed his hands on her waist," he said.

"She had no knowledge that it was happening, he then moved his hands up the side of her body to chest height," he said.

Mr Cowley said the woman confronted him and he then began arguing with a nearby family.

A member of staff asked Holden to leave the store and he was punched in the face. An off-duty policeman then saw the situation and arrested Holden.

Holden of Windmill Lane, admitted indecent assault on a female, assault by beating, being drunk and disorderly and failing to surrender to bail.

He was given a 12-month community rehabilitation order, and magistrates ordered him to pay £200 compensation to each victim and £80 costs.
