A WOMAN pulled a wing mirror off a van used by a thief as he tried to make his getaway after breaking into her garage.

The 59-year-old woman spotted a red van parked outside the garage of her home in Rock, near Bewdley.

She heard the garage door open and saw a man loading items out of the garage into the back of the van.

Racing out, she grabbed the wing mirror of the van, which came away in her hand, but the thief escaped.

A petrol-powered generator, valued at £300, an orange and white Stihl chainsaw, valued at £200, a green Echo hedge trimmer valued at £100, and a jump-start power supply unit worth £50, were all stolen during the incident at 11.05am on Saturday, November 22.

"The woman was very shaken by this incident but manage to keep hold of the wing mirror which we believe may have come from a Volkswagen transporter van," said PC Benjamin Wharton of Kidderminster Police.

"If anyone noticed anything unusual in the Rock area on Saturday morning, we would like to hear from them. The power tools which were taken are fairly distinctive."

Anyone with information about the incident should contact PC Wharton on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
