WORCESTER St John's Cycling Club riders went to Rugeley in Staffordshire for round six of the West Midlands cyclo-cross league.
There was disapointment for Jon Newey in the senior men's event. A good ride in the opening four laps of the eight-lap event saw him pull clear of a chasing group of three that had formed behind the leading six riders.
But then Newey's rear tyre punctured, forcing him to make a wheel change and some alterations to the brakes before continuing.
The time out cost him dear, dropping to 20th place and forcing a long chase. Picking up back markers for the next four laps, Newey managed to claw back to 13th.
Saints' John Starkey battled round fighting poor form to take 28th place from 45 starters.
The schoolboys contiued to gain experience and confidence, with Dan Staines 10th in the U14 event and Mitchell Warburton not far behind in 17th.
Martin Staines was 38th out of 65 riders in the joint veteran's and women's race.
