HARD work has paid off for a pupil at Hindlip CE First School who picked up an award from the North Claines Parish Council.
Jemma Wyles became this year's name to be engraved on the Child of Achievement Award from the council.
"We've been running the Child of Achievement Award for several years now," said parish council chairman Paul Coley.
"It's for the hardest working child at the school, not necessarily the cleverest, but the most conscientious.
"Hopefully, stuff like this gets them motivated and helps them on the right path."
Mr Coley presented eight-year-old Jemma with a framed certificate, a shield with her name engraved on and book tokens at a special assembly.
The tricky task of picking one pupil out of the 12 in Year 4, the school's top class, fell to the staff and headteacher Julie King.
"Jemma is conscientious, hard-working and delightful in every way," said Mrs King.
"I think the award is very positive, but we don't overplay it simply because it is hard to choose one child and we don't want the others to think they are not hard- working too."
