ENVIRONMENTAL issues were due to be top of the agenda as the Eco-Schools campaign hit Malvern Theatres.
Malvern Hills District Council has teamed up with Worcestershire County Council to promote sustainability through the campaign for local schools, from 9am to 5pm today.
The Eco-Schools initiative aims to promote environmental management and sustainability as a part of the life of schools.
Presentation
The district council is also keen to promote its new kerbside recycling scheme to children and teachers as part of the event, in a bid to get the younger generation on board well before the full district launch in early spring.
There was due to be a presentation on the importance of recycling and a hands-on opportunity to sort rubbish into the coloured bags which will help bring the recycling initiative to life.
Pupils also had the opportunity to view the giant seven-metre earth balloon currently at the theatre, on Grange Road, enabling them to view the world they will be helping to preserve and its immense scale.
"We hope to get as many children involved in learning about our new recycling scheme as possible," said Councillor Tom Wells, district council leader.
"Teaching children when they're young about the importance of recycling and the impact that our waste has on the environment is essential and such events will enable us to be a part of promoting this."
