THE Worcester Barn Owl Society is desperately seeking volunteers to help care for and monitor the birds in the county.

Roy Fowler, conservation officer for the group, said that although they have around 200 members they only actually have three volunteers.

"The barn owl population in the Worcestershire area has increased," said Roy Fowler, conservation officer with the group.

"Reports from our monitors in the field reveal that we now have 32 pairs, compared to 29 pairs recorded during the 2001 survey.

"But we are desperate for volunteers to help monitor and survey owls as well as build nest boxes."

He added that in the New Year the group would be working with the Farming, Wildlife and Advisory Group to build more barn owl boxes.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer should call Roy on 07950 008 009.
