A NEGLECTED St Peter's play area is to be spruced up thanks to a share of a £95,000 hand-out for playground refurbishment.
The play area between Abbotsbury Court and Tesco, on the Worcester estate, has fallen into disrepair over the last few years.
At a meeting held on Monday, members of St Peter's Parish Council agreed to set some funds aside to help with the playground's refurbishment, but the amount has not yet been released.
Worcester City Council's cabinet recommended the play area at St Peter's Drive should be refurbished along with Springfield Road, Cherry Orchard, and Turner's Close, Brickfields, at a meeting held less than a month ago.
At the cabinet meeting, Councillor Francis Lankester said St Peter's Parish Council had expressed an interest in stumping up cash of its own with a view to having the site declared a Neighbourhood Equipped Area for Play by the National Playing Fields Association.
Roger Knight, chairman of the parish council, said the playground was once the most frequently used play area on the estate.
"Over the last few years it's fallen into disrepair," he said.
"The ground surface has broken up over the years. There are only swings and a few bits and pieces left.
"We have agreed to set funds aside to work with Worcester City Council to produce a state-of-the-art playground."
