FUNDRAISERS hoping to raise £1m to pay for urgent repairs to Bromsgrove's ancient parish church reckon sales of a beautiful painting of the 13th century building will give the fund a welcome boost.
Already 50 of the colourful prints, individually signed by the celebrated Worcester artist David Birtwhistle, have been sold with new orders being received daily.
The St John's Landmark Appeal which is being supported by the Advertiser/Messenger has exclusive sales rights on prints of the painting which is aptly titled "A Landmark for Bromsgrove".
Set in an autumn scene the church is shown in all its glory from an unusual viewpoint with some old properties in St John Street in the foreground.
Appeal co-ordinator Jo Slade said its popularity has be such that the prints have been re-ordered twice to keep up with demand.
"It makes an excellent, lasting Christmas gift not just for someone who lives in the town but as an ideal reminder for someone who now lives away."
Unframed prints cost £25 or £45 with a gold frame. They can be seen in the church on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and on Sundays.
Other Christmas ideas are the appeal's Sponsor a Pipe scheme. The Appeal needs 500 new pipes to refurbish the church organ.
Sponsorship starts at £25 and makes an unusual Christmas present.
A picture of a snow capped St John's Church has made a beautiful Christmas card. They are available at £2 for five cards.
