A SPA man went on an £870 spending spree after stealing his grandfather's credit card. Wayne Recardo of Droitwich used the stolen card to make 14 transactions which included buying petrol and toiletries in May this year, Worcester Magistrates Court heard.
The court was told the 28-year-old had stolen the card from Kenneth Woods who was his grandfather.
Leslie Ashton, prosecuting, said this was a crime for attention which followed the breakdown of a relationship.
Dawn Cooper, defending said Recardo has been driven to steal because his ex-girlfriend frequently demanded cash and she and her family threatened him with violence. Miss Cooper asked the court not to reveal Recardo's address because he had moved house and said there was risk of a retaliation. Recardo admitted the four charges of obtaining property by deception and asked for 10 more to be taken into consideration at court last Wednesday.
He was sentenced to a total of 80 hours community punishment and was ordered to pay £872.54 compensation and costs of £118.
