THERE were no surprises in the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis League Cup last week with all fancied teams winning.
Defending champions Lickey Monarchs had their strongest team out against West Midland Phones B and ran out 8-1 winners. Eric Hardman and Roy Norton both won their three games with Captain Martin Clark getting the other two.
Barnt Green B were too good for the young Droitwich C team, winning 7-2 while Division One Astwood Bank were runaway 9-0 winners at division two Studley Road Terriers.
Division Two Lickey Roc's lost 8-1 at home to Division One Carter Retail A. Bob Barlow secured their only win. Mick Kendall and Bob Watts both won their three games for Carter with Terry Rawlings getting the other two.
West Midland Phones A's 7-2 victory over Droitwich A was much closer than the score suggests with six of the games going to the best of four and three to the best of five. Colin Would starred for the Phones, winning his three games while Alan Hyatt and Don Shillingford won two each. Tony Birch got Droitwich's double.
