MANY parents and residents in this area will support the protests being made by the St Stephen's School parents.

Here, we have the two largest schools in the county and therefore more than enough arrogant and selfish parents who simply do not care that they are putting at risk the lives of their own children and others.

They park on yellow lines, on bends and on zigzags.

They park in the cul-de-sac leading to the primary school and thereby block access to any emergency vehicles.

The school exacerbates the problem by leaving the gates wide open so they then drive into the small school yard to turn while hundreds of small children are walking out.

As the St Stephen's parents have found, the police do nothing.

On the rare occasions they come, they arrive early and park their vehicle conspicuously or arrive after the traffic has cleared.

Anyone else asking the illegal parkers to move is subject to a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse.

The only suggestion the police have made is that we should ask the council to apply to de-criminalise parking as they have done in other towns.

Under this scheme, the police are no longer responsible but power is given to the local council to appoint wardens, collect fines and clamp vehicles.

If the St Stephen's parents wish to support this, they should write to Mr Chris Smith, Borough Director, Redditch Borough Council, and send a copy to their local councillor.

I'm sure they, like us, are not prepared to wait until a child is killed or injured.
