A LACK of volunteers could mean a 'crucial' health watchdog is not set up in Redditch.
The Patient and Public Involvement Forum (PPI) should immediately replace Redditch and Bromsgrove Community Health Council when it is abolished on December 1.
But unless at least seven people from Redditch or Bromsgrove come forward to sit on the forum, it will not be able to function and a public voice on health matters will be lost.
Redditch and Bromsgrove Primary Care Trust spokesman Kimara Sharpe said: "We have advertised for volunteers since September but so far only three people have come forward which is very disappointing.
"We need to have at least seven by Monday or we will not be able to have a forum but it really should be in place."
The independent forum will have powers to change the way services are run in Redditch and Ms Sharpe said it was crucial to the PCT and residents.
Other work carried out by the CHC will be covered by a Health Scrutiny Panel run by Worcestershire County Council and the Patient Advisory and Liaison Service (PALS).
Anyone who is over 18, has a couple of hours a week to spare and has a real desire to make an impact on how the health service is run is urged to become a volunteer. For details, call 0845 1207115.
