ON the day champagne socialists, assorted ne'er do wells and other fellow travellers demonstrated in London against the state visit by the head of a friendly nation, British establishments in Istanbul were devastated by bombs set by Muslim extremists - probably al Qaeda.
No doubt some of the rag tag demonstrators would, as they did after 9/11, blame the recipients for the actions of the terrorists. You know what I mean, Americans brought it on themselves etc.
It is no good trying to reason with terrorists any more than it was seeking a settlement with Hitler.
What is needed is a united front, of the sort Blair and Bush are pursuing.
That people such as Charles Kennedy, a man who you would think should have more oil in his lamp, are encouraging such shameful demonstrations is a national disgrace.
By presenting a divided nation we are providing succour to the evil bombers, people who have no regard whatsoever for the sanctity of human life.
Perhaps those who wish to bray nonsense in Trafalgar Square and other such places might think twice before they do so.
Freedom is like a fine heirloom - abuse it and it could be gone for ever.
