WEDNESDAY CLUB: Mr J G Powell, CBE, came to Mickleton with a vast array of literature and leaflets to give a talk to club members. The slides showed the lengthy preparation of the poppies and the making of wreaths, to be placed on cenotaphs throughout the country.
At the next meeting Mr Nigel Dimmer came from Cheltenham to talk to the club about Silver Through the Ages. Mr Dimmer is the fourth generation of his family to have owned the firm of Martin and Co, Cheltenham. Mr Dimmer began his talk with a short history and related how in earlier days, the Chancellor of the Exchequer took old silver and turned it into coinage to rescue the economy. Later, galleons such as the Mary Rose were full of silver and constantly wrecked and plundered.
Mr Dimmer has agreed to return at a later date. Don't forget to sign up for the Christmas tea and Christmas lunch in January 2004.
HISTORY OF MICKLETON: An introductory meeting was held on October 31. Other talks are arranged for December 1 and 2 at either 2.30pm or 7.30pm in King Georges Hall.
