ROYAL BRITISH LEGION: At the recent AGM of Shipston branch of the Royal British Legion, officers elected were - president Sir John Owen, chairman Mr R Adams, secretary Mrs T Snoding, treasurer Mr F Richardson. The committee was re-elected, Mr M Ashley continues as subscription secretary. Ex-regular or National Servicemen or women would be welcome to join the Shipston branch. Those who have not served in armed forces are welcome as an associate member.
The chairman said welfare aspects were again the priority. Members were asked to bring to the notice of the committee any ex-service personnel or their widows needing help even if not Legion members. The notice board in The Bury continues to give information, and members were asked to use it to keep in touch.
Mr G Lowe, standard bearer, paraded the standard at Warwick County Parade, Galanos House and Alcester Festival of Remembrance. Shipston Town Band led the Remembrance Day Parade and members were accompanied by youth organisations to St Edmunds Church. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Legion, Shipston Town Council, Shipston WI and Stratford Council.
The branch promoted and supported the observance of two minutes silence at 11am on November 11, which was well attended.
The next branch event will be the British Legion bingo evening on November 29 at Townsend Hall 7.45pm. Proceeds from the event are for the welfare of local ex-servicemen and their dependants.
MUSIC SOCIETY: It was Friday Night is Music Night for members and guests on Friday, November 21. This was an evening of musical delight which Richard Baker would have been pleased to present!
Club members introduced the music chosen by them. The result was a programme of great variety both in respect of the composer and the music, which was enjoyed by all who attended. Norman Jones was thanked for controlling the recordings.
The next meeting at the Methodist Church will be a live concert given by the Chorino Choir, with readings by Anne Hume. Please note this is on Friday, December 12 - the second Friday in the month, guests welcome.
