GARDENING CLUB: The annual supper was held in King George's Hall when 70 members enjoyed a Scottish evening. Marguerite Bell and her helpers provided an excellent Scottish meal. A short quiz had been prepared to test members knowledge of Scotland and this was won by Pat Mackay and Mary Alderson. After the meal Sarah Moody sang well-known Scottish songs. There was a raffle with prizes having a Scottish connection.
The November meeting was the 21st annual meeting. Officers elected - Bridget Maslin, chairman; Ena Thompson, treasurer; Lisa Jolliffe, secretary; other Committee members, Lt Col G Furtardo, Mrs J Jones, Mrs M Davis, Mrs P Cross, Mrs S Ravenhall, Mrs S Reed and Miss A Suffield. The chairman paid tribute to retiring members Stephanie Brookes, Ann Wall and Thelma Hunt although Thelma agreed to become show secretary. The chairman reported on an interesting and varied year.
Allen and Beatrice Kitchen were made honorary patrons of the club in recognition of their long service, enthusiasm and commitment.
Mr and Mrs Nex gave a talk on Lady Gardeners.
