I WOULD like to reply to the writer of the letter regarding the best use of police time, (Shuttle/Times and News, November 20).

As the wife of a local and hard-working police officer I feel compelled to point out my views on police time.

These officers work 10-hour shifts, are frequently asked to stay on with inquiries, arrests or to cover short shifts, adding to a working day of 12-16 hours.

It is a shame we can't always see traffic moving so slowly on the Birmingham Road, or should we all be allowed to drive at 100mph?

My deepest sympathy goes out to all the local families who have lost a loved one in a road death, and especially all the families my husband has had to tell this tragic news to.

To use your words, I think their workload is "disgusting" and your comments "amazing". There is always a need for more officers on the beat, perhaps you would like a job? (Apply to police headquarters, Hindlip).
