VALE folk braved the rain to see the spirit of Christmas arrive in Evesham with the turning on of the festive lights.

The event, which took place last Thursday, incorporated late night shopping at the Riverside Centre in Evesham.

Look-a-likes, Del Boy and Charlie Chaplain entertained the crowds, while carols were sung and jazz music played.

Mayor Patrick Clifford said: "It was a brilliant evening considering the bad weather.

"Santa arrived with real reindeer and there was lots of entertainment.

"I would like to thank all those who turned out, especially the Celebration Band and the singers who no doubt got wet performing outside."
