THE Lygon Arms in Broadway, is to undergo a multi-million pound refurbishment.
The building, which dates back to the 14th Century, is back under family ownership after being bought by the Furlong Hotels Group earlier this year.
New general manager Julian Ebbutt, who is relocating to Broadway from Bath with his family.
He said £3million would be spent on the four-star hotel over the next two years to achieve a "classically elegant" look.
Work is due to start this week to recarpet public areas, add new carpet, table coverings, lighting and music system to The Great Hall to create a classical dining room, refurbish bedrooms and renovate the spa and beauty treatment rooms.
Plans are also in place to reinstate a doorman for the first time in 15 years and introduce Lygon Arms crockery and cutlery.
Mr Ebbutt said: "I am very excited to be joining the Lygon Arms at this time and my goal is to make the hotel the number one country house hotel in the UK and to establish The Great Hall and bar as a destination restaurant and bar.
"I am looking forward to working towards the continued success of the hotel and ensuring it is an unforgettable experience for all our guests."
The Lygon has just been awarded the Best UK Rural Break Hotel by Sunday Times travel magazine readers.
