IN reply to Mr. Alten, I'd like to know from where he takes the information which allows him to conclude that the majority of road traffic accidents are caused by speeding. This simply isn't true.
The Government's own figures show that approximately 7 per cent of accidents are directly attributable to speeding, that is breaking the posted limit.
The majority of accidents are caused by bad driving such as using inappropriate speed for the conditions or misjudgements/ mistakes, among others.
It's perfectly possible to drive within the limit, yet still be going too fast for the conditions, such as ice, snow or fog. This isn't speeding.
Many speed cameras in and around Worcester have been accompanied by a corresponding lowering of the speed limit. I presume this is to make it easier to catch people.
Why not just enforce the existing limit? Otherwise, the result's something like the Worcester-Kidderminster road, a perfectly comfortable drive at 60-70 mph which is now the biggest mish mash of speed limits I've ever seen anywhere.
There's actually no point in it being a dual carriageway any more.

Worcester.
