WORCESTER'S Simon Archer is through to the world final of the Thomas Cup men's team badminton competition -- even though he was back in England at his sister's wedding!
Archer helped England through to the European zone semi-finals in Presov, Slovakia, where they lost 3-2 to Germany despite his doubles victory with Robert Blair, defeating Kristof Hopp and Ingo Kindervater 15-6 15-7.
But without Archer England beat Poland 3-1 in the third-place play-off yesterday.
That has clinched them a spot in the world finals, which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia in May.
England won all three of their group matches and had defeated Russia 3-1 in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, England's women failed to reach the Uber Cup finals after finishing the competition with two 3-0 losses against Holland and Denmark.
